I. INTRODUCTION
This FAQ will NOT be how to play EA Sports NHL 2003
because that is what the manual is for. In time I might
add hints and strategies to this document but right now I'm
concentrating on the roster aspect of the game. When you
open up any sports game you will immediately notice that
most of the roster seems out of date because they set the
roster for shipping long before shipping so many of the
transactions that occur in the league between the roster
set date and the shipping date, don't make the game. Other
mistakes come from the guy in charge of the rosters being
lazy and forgetful to where a player has signed. I cannot
blame him because it is a lot of work and a lot of these
players are just career minor leaguers or fringe players
and hard to keep track of any way.
That is where I come in. I have to the trouble of
listing every single omission to the rosters of NHL2003 for
the Playstation 2, PC, Gamecube and X-Box. This FAQ once
the season starts on October 9, 2002 will be updated a
couple times for the opening day rosters until it's
complete and then it will only be updated every month
(reflecting call-ups and such) unless a major trade occurs,
in which case I'll add that to the list. But for the most
part the NHL Line Combinations and the NHL 23-Man Rosters
sections will only be updated once a month. It's hopefully
enough to keep you coming back for more.

III. FAQs
FAQs in an FAQ? Well I'm on the cutting edge so why
not? I'm accepting questions for this section so just fire
them my way. What? Where do you find me? Just read down
further in this section.
Q When do you update this FAQ?
A I'll try to update at least once a month to reflect the
23 man rosters of the NHL teams
Q Where can I find the rosters myself?
A Try the NHL team websites which can be found by typing
the 'www.thefullteamnamehere.com' and there you go.
ESPN.com, TSN.com and TSN.ca are also good sites to go to
but I cannot guarantee that they will always be up to date.
Q How may I contact you?
A Feel free to drop me an e-mail at
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I'll answer back usually
within that day or night. I'm real good about that.
I can also be found on AIM under the handle Dags91 and
yahoo messenger under the dynamitehack91 handle. I don't
mind that if you're not childish or annoying.
Q You have So-and-So on the wrong team, you have So-and-
So's jersey number wrong, you have So-and-So's position
wrong, you have So-and-So under the wrong team transaction,
ect.
A Chances are I know about it but have not gotten around
to fixing it. However, I won't mind a polite email about
it and that can key me in what needs to be fixed. I'd even
appreciate it in some cases. Some of the positions will be
different from what the game lists them as because I didn't
write down the positions while I was writing down who
needed to go where so I typed in the position I know they
play which will very from what the game has usually. The
player probably can play that position but I'd like an
email about it because I want to get this as accurate to
the game as I can get, not as accurate as to what I know.
I'd be deeply in your debt there. Also if I have a player
on the wrong team transaction list, then PLEASE do drop a
line because I didn't write down all the transactions when
I was going through the game and I forgot where some of
the players came from originally in this game and that is
what happened in those instances.
Q What are those (??) that follow some entries?
A Those are things I am not sure of and need some
confirmation on. So drop me a line if you can confirm them
for me. Like a lot of the players not on the roster, I'm
not sure where they went or if they are actually still in
the system of that team. I put them on waivers just to be
sure because I no longer saw their name in the team's
system.
V. ROSTER TRANSACTIONS (LONG LIST)
Teams come in alphabetical order and this only includes
players that are in the game and not hidden in the database
or are created. I feel the set-up of the list is pretty
self-explanatory but if it's not, please drop an email and
make me know I need to re-do this introduction then.

V. ROSTER TRANSACTIONS (SHORT LIST)
I know no one wants to print out the 11 or so pages that
it takes for the long list of transactions therefore, in
this section I've condensed it as much as I could so it's
more friendly on the ink and paper supply. Instead of
listing each entry twice, these are the only necessary
transactions needed to update the rosters. I did the long
list because it looks better and is easier to use.

VI. CREATE-A-PLAYER
NHL 2003 gives you the ability to create players to use
on your rosters and it is a good thing too because the
programmers at EA could not possibly put every single
player that will see NHL action this year into the game.
This section will give you the stats, appearance and
ratings for these players. This section will also be
divided into subsections : Essential players, players that
are missing from the game and play a big part in their
team's line-up; Minor leaguers, players that will see time
during the season but won't play a major role for the most
part in the success of their club and therefore can be
omitted; Goalies, EA allows for rosters to hold only 3
goalies at one time on a club and most teams tend to have
more than 3 goalies in their system; Prospects, these are
the future of the NHL but they aren't the present so EA
sports did not put them in the game. However, doesn't mean
we cannot put them in the game for our enjoyment;
Historical players, NHL cards won't unlock historic players
but doesn't mean we cannot create our own replicas of them;
Miscellaneous, any other funny Create-A-Player much like
NHL 2002 featuring the Bare Naked Ladies musical group as
creatable players.
For the most part I'm handling the prospects, essential
players, minor leaguers and the goalies but I welcome
contributions but I cannot guarantee that I will use your
ratings over mine. I also welcome any Create-A-Player
contributions that have the appearance slider numbers
because that would save me the time of trying to get the
sliders to look like the actual player. So that is one
sure-fire way in getting your name on the contribution
list. Any and all Historic and Miscellaneous Create-A-
Player contributions also will be added. I also take
requests if you'd like.

VII. NHL LINE COMBINATIONS
This section lists the line combinations and defense
pairings each NHL club uses during the season. It'll be
updated once a month only and hopefully will give you an
idea to which lines to use in your NHL2003 game.
However, I cannot do this section alone. I am only one
man and I can only watch so much hockey at one time and
during the season. So this is where YOU come in and get
immortalized in the contribution section of this document.
Any time you watch an NHL game on TV or in person, get a
piece of paper and a pen and jot down who plays with who on
the ice at the same time. It isn't always the same but
coaches tend to use patterns and match the same players
together a lot and some even stick to the same line
combinations for the entire game. If you're using lined
paper, use the first four lines for the home team, space
and then four more lines for the road team. So your paper
should look like this :
W-C-W LD-RD
W-C-W LD-RD
W-C-W LD-RD
W-C-W Goalie
W-C-W LD-RD
W-C-W LD-RD
W-C-W LD-RD
W-C-W Goalie
Then send it to me via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
and I thank you kindly for that. Defensive pairings usually
won't play with the same forward lines but you get the
point and it saves room.
