I have discovered a new way to make back-up copies of

STAR WARS Episode 1 Racer & STAR WARS Episode 1 The phantom menace

My version of the games is french but I think the tip should work for all version

The tip is to ?replace? the unreadable sectors with other from another CD
Copy sector from CD before unreadable sectors
Copy then sectors from another CD : they replace the unreadable sectors (must be the same number)
Copy sectors after unreadable sectors

Here the way to copy STAR WARS Episode 1 Racer

version                        French
Name                          racer100_0
Size 75:54:09 (3 tracks : data, audio, data)
Protection illegal TOC, oversize & unreadable sectors
CD writer                   HP 8100i
Software Nero 4 and CDRwin 3
CD                               arita 80min

nice protection with big files, illegal TOC, oversize & 70M of unreadable sectors!
A sollution was to make a back up but it takes so long time
so here a new quicker way to bypass the protection...

with Nero's options "view track" and "save track", you can see where exactly
the unredable sectors begin / end, where tracks begins / end.
note all of that

my FRENCH version is like that (must verify for other versions)

00000 --->  43999
44000 --->  79999 = unreadable sectors
80000 ---> 339210

75:26:61 ---> 75:38:35 = track 2 (audio)
fake track 3 (data) is not needed

go to CDRwin "extract disc/tracks/sectors"
choose "extract sectors"

option
data type = data mode 1 RAW (2352) and audio 2352 for the second audio track)
error recovery    = abort
jitter correction  = auto

now you can start, type the image filename and the start & end

racer1.bin | extract sectors 0 -> 43999 from Racer CD
racer2.bin | extract sectors 44000 -> 79999 from another CD (I use tomb raider 3 CD)
racer2.bin | extract sectors 80000 -> 339210 from Racer CD
track2.bin | extract audio 75:26:61 -> 75:38:35 from Racer CD

the third track is not needed
I keep the second track 'cause it's not an empty track like the third

then build a cuesheet (with the pad) and use this

FILE "C:CDRWIN3RACER1.BIN" BINARY --> come from racer CD
  TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
FILE "C:CDRWIN3RACER2.BIN" BINARY --> come from Tomb raider 3 CD
  TRACK 02 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
FILE "C:CDRWIN3RACER3.BIN" BINARY --> come from racer CD
  TRACK 03 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
    POSTGAP 00:02:00
FILE "C:CDRWIN3TRACK2.BIN" WAVE --> come from racer CD (second track)
  TRACK 04 AUDIO
    INDEX 01 00:00:00

don't worry about the number of tracks

load the cuesheet and burn (maybe a 80 min)

results

 it seems to be long to explain but it take less than an hour
you fuck up the unreadable sectors : they are replaced by the sectors of TR3
the sectors of TR3 don't appear on final CD
the program think it's the orignal CD because - all the files are on a right place
					       - it doesn't matter for the TR3 sectors
					       - the "big" files are well reproduced
					       - the CD is well finalized and have the right name

now you can play that funny game
you can make another back up copy from this CD, there's no problem

Here the way to copy STAR WARS Episode 1

version                        French
Name                          lamenacefan
Size 76:47:60 (3 tracks : data, audio, data)
Protection illegal TOC, oversize & unreadable sectors
CD writer                   HP 8100i
Software Nero 4 and CDRwin 3
CD                              arita 80min

About 36M of unreadable sectors

with Nero's options "view track" and "save track", you can see where exactly
the unredable sectors begin / end, where tracks begins / end.
note all of that

my FRENCH version is like that (must verify for other versions)

00000   --->  99999
100000 --->  115999    = unreadable sectors
116000 --->  344410

76:36:11 --> 76:47:60  = track 2 (audio)
the fake third data is not needed

go to CDRwin "extract disc/tracks/sectors"
choose "extract sectors"

option
data type = data mode 1 RAW (2352) and audio 2352 for the second audio track)
error recovery    = abort
jitter correction  = auto

now you can start, type the image filename and the start & end

fantom1.bin | extract sectors 0             ->  99999      from Fantom CD
fantom2.bin | extract sectors 100000   -> 115999     from another CD (I use tomb raider 3 CD)
fantom3.bin | extract sectors 116000   -> 344410     from Fantom CD
track2.bin    | extract audio 76 :36 :11 -> 76 :47 :60 from Fantom CD

the third track is not needed
I keep the second track 'cause it's not an empty track like the third

then build a cuesheet (with the pad) and use this

FILE "C:CDRWIN3FANTOM1.BIN" BINARY
  TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
FILE "C:CDRWIN3FANTOM2.BIN" BINARY
  TRACK 02 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
FILE "C:CDRWIN3FANTOM3.BIN" BINARY
  TRACK 03 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
    POSTGAP 00:02:00
FILE "C:CDRWIN3TRACK2.BIN" WAVE
  TRACK 04 AUDIO
    INDEX 01 00:00:00

don't worry about the number of tracks

load the cuesheet and burn (maybe a 80 min)

the results are exactly the same as the results of Star Wars episode 1 Racer

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That?s all
Thank you for reading
With this tip the CD can be quickly copied. I think all recorder can do the job.
I hope you will find this tip cool and hope you will add this to GameCopyWorld
